The Biliran Volcano is a large Compound Volcano or Complex Volcano forming the Island of Biliran off the north coast of Leyte Province in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Biliran Island contains many prominent andesitic lava domes, five fumarole fields and the most recent activity was a phreatic explosive eruption and debris avalanche at a thermal area at Mt. Suiro in 1939 with ashfall over Caibiran on the east coast. Possible other Biliran Volcano eruptions are said to have taken place at Mt. Pananao between Almeria and Kawayan in 1669 and another in Caibiran around 1800 near the site of the current Biliran Geothermal project.
The Biliran Volcano is listed as one of the few active Volcanos in the Philippines and was monitored in 1954 when it was feared the Volcano was close waking from its sleep. The Island has many Thermal areas, Mud Pools and Hot Springs such as in Libtong in Naval Municipality and the Mainit Hot Spring in Caibiran that have become popular tourist attractions.
Biliran and Leyte Province are also prone to earthquakes as they are on the Central Leyte Fault line, part of the Philippine Fault Zone. The Fault line passes right up the spine of Leyte Island and then along the seabed between Biliran and Calubian Municipality in Leyte Province.

As you can see in this video the area is still very active with very hot water bubbling up into pools.
The marker you can see there would have been due to test drilling in the Libtong area as they researched the possibility of geothermal power plants around Biliran Island, but it was decided to build one on the other side of the mountain in Caibiran.

This is actually a cold spring, but it's just feet away from other pools of water that are boiling hot, so great care is needed walking around the Springs as it's hard to tell at first glance if the water is hot or cold.

A pool of spring water at Libtong Hot Springs, but is the water Hot or Cold? It's hard to tell if it's bubbles from heat of just air bubbles from the spring and underground vents. You can find Hot and Cold springs within just a few feet of each other here, so be very careful.

Great care is needed walking around the Libtong Hot Springs as under foot can be voids and underground pools of boiling hot Volcanic water, so I would strongly advice that you get a local guide from the nearby village of Libtong Daku who knows the Springs well and can help you keep safe.
