NAVAL, Biliran, Sept. 14 (PIA) –- The local government unit (LGU) of Naval through Mayor Susan Parilla is preparing to celebrate its 151st Pueblo Day on September 26, 2011. This was revealed by Vice-Mayor Redentor Villordon who is the focal person of all the activities related to the celebration, in an interview with PIA-Biliran. He said various activities have been lined-up by the LGU of Naval to make the occasion memorable for each and every Navaleño as they reminisce the day when Naval first became a “pueblo” or town. In order to strengthen the unity of all the 26 barangays and their barangay officials as well as the barangay residents, he said, a barangay night will be held on September 26 at the Naval gymnasium. Days before the celebration, LGU-Naval has set the opening of the agro-industrial fair at the Naval Municipal grounds. The fair will showcase the best agricultural produce of the farmers in the 26 barangays of Naval. Likewise, the fair will give an opportunity for the local producers to display their best products such as the native creations of bags, mats, suman and other products and delicacies offered for sale at low, low prices. He added that a nightly live band show to entertain nga Navaleños both young and old will be held at the Naval gymnasium, one week before the celebration of the 151st Pueblo Day on September 26. The activities include a beer drinking contest as the San Miguel Corporation local dealers are set to put up beer kiosks during the celebration. On the day of the celebration, the activities will be started with a thanksgiving mass at 6:00 o’clock in the morning at the Naval Cathedral church. This will be followed by a parade to be participated in by the officials and employees of the LGU-Naval, national government agencies, students of the different schools in the municipality and the provincial government of Biliran around the main thoroughfares of Naval. Afterwhich, the commemorative program follows at the municipal grounds. This year’s celebration of the 151st Pueblo Day of Naval carries the same theme as the celebration of its annual Fiesta on October 1 which is “Naval: Balancing Economic Development with Environmental Protection”.

Naval marks 151st Pueblo Day
by Lanie Pitao-Tupaz NAVAL, Biliran, Sept. 26 (PIA) – Naval, the capital town of the island province of Biliran, marks its 151st Pueblo Day today, Monday, September 26 with merrymaking and free services for its townspeople. Today’s activities started with a mass, followed with a parade, and a short program and many other activities at the municipal grounds. Socials is set the Naval gymnasium tonight. Aside from the participation of the municipal employees and national government employees based in Naval, barangay folks also showed their cooperative efforts in the activities. Townspeople as well as visitors had the opportunity to see and taste the best locally made products of the town ranging from agricultural and aquatic products, local delicacies, and other souvenir items. These products have been on display since the opening of the agro-trade fair in September 21 as its launching activity for the Pueblo Day activities and the upcoming Naval town fiesta on October 1. With Naval’s efforts in protecting the environment, the 151st Pueblo Day celebration is centered on the theme : “Naval: Balancing Economic Development with Environmental Protection” . The local government unit of Naval, headed by Mayor Susan V. Parilla, urged all participants and visitors in the activities initiated by the them to observe and follow their local ordinances on anti-smoking and waste segregation. Sangguniang Bayan Member Gregory Pastor who is the overall chairman of the Pueblo Day activities, encouraged the local residents to observe these ordinances to show to visitors that they themselves are following their own laws for the visitors to emulate. Aside from the agro-trade fair, a musical extravaganza showcasing local bands with members of young blood, entertain visitors while enjoying their dinner and other foodstuff on sale at the municipal compound. Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. and San Miguel Beer Corporation are the exclusive sponsors of these activities aside from the support of the LGU. The nightly music extravaganza also started in September 21 and ended last night with Blackdyak as its surprise guest. Blakdyak also entertained the audience in this mornings Pueblo Day program at the Naval municipal grounds as a prelude to his concert with Asin and Paminta on October 2 at the Naval gymnasium.
