The Almeria Seafarers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ASEMCO) was formally organized on September 04, 1994. Originally, it was intended exclusively for seamen alone, but anticipating operational and management problems that may arise once they go on board a vessel, the pioneers of the coop decided to include their wives as members, Hence, the official name, Almeria Seafarers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ASEMCO) was adopted.
