"Maripipi Progressive Movement is a non government, non profit organization located in the village of Binalayan, Maripipi. Maripipi is an island 24 kilometers in circumference. It is located west of Calbayog, Samar, east of Masbate and north of Leyte."
"This organization was created in 1998 to help the community help themselves. It is a grassroots non government, non profit organization composed of the poorest women in the community who are willing to make sacrifices to make a change in their lives. Some of them eat only once a day. By this organization it is hoped that one day they will eradicate poverty by sending their children to school and break the cycle of poverty."
"These are the original members who are instrumental in the organization. Because of poverty they are the source of environmental destruction to both land and the sea. Getting out of poverty is a difficult task that one person is trying to target with the hope that others will follow. The members produce the handmade cloth dolls called “Nation of Dolls”.
